Termon's overachievers

Anna Gallagher and Niamh Callaghan celebrate after winning the Minor title with Termon.
TO COME from nowhere to claim a first county senior championship title is achievement enough in itself, but to follow it up a matter of weeks with Ulster glory made 2010 a year which will live long in the memories of all those associated with Termon ladies.
It announced the arrival of the club on the All-Ireland stage, and brought a level of publicity to the Donegal outfit which gave due credit to the hard work and commitment of those involved in the club over many years.
This is club chairman Joe McDaid’s third year in the hot-seat, and he has overseen a period where the club have endured contrasting fortunes in the male and female codes. While the ladies have become an all-conquering force, their male counterparts have endured the disappointment of successive relegations, but remain confident that better times are just around the corner.
One thing on which they simply cannot be questioned though is their commitment to the Gaeltacht championships. Just a matter of weeks ago, the club secured a unique double when they laid claim to the mens All-Ireland Junior Gaeltacht Championship title, with the girls winning the All-Ireland Senior Gaeltacht Championship title for a fourth consecutive year.
It’s a club with a proud and decorated history, and one which McDaid is proud to be part of as they continue to look to the future.
“I’d been involved in the running of the club for seven or eight years, before I took on the role of chairman. It’s been hard work, like any other job, but it has also been enjoyable. Seeing achievements and being involved in them, makes it all worthwhile.
“Before I came in, the club had just finished developing their main pitch, and although we have purchased ground adjacent to our existing facilities, plans for a training field there have had to be put on hold until funding becomes available for that particular project.”
