McGoldrick laments mystery injuries to Coleraine

Coleraine's Declan Mullan
SEAN McGoldrick has admitted that even he doesn’t understand the injury that has stopped Coleraine Eoghan Rua’s star forward Declan Mullan from playing this season.
Mullan won man of the match in Coleraine’s 2010 Derry Championship victory, and played in all four of the county’s Championship games that season.
He played for club and county last year, and scored 0-3 against Kildare in the qualifiers. However, this year he has yet to play for Coleraine or Derry.
“I just don’t know what the injury is, he has had that many. He has been to numerous people but they don’t know what it is,” said manager McGoldrick.
“People think that we should know what it is, but we don’t.
“He was in with the county medical team and it is my understanding that they advised him to go back to his club.
“That is why he opted out of the county, or was advised to leave.
“We are hoping that after a period of rest he will be back in time for the Championship.”
Coleraine have been drawn against Slaughtneil in the first round of this year’s Championship, which is bad news considering McGoldrick’s side lost to the Emmet’s last weekend.
The final score was 0-11 to 1-23, though neither team had their county players.
“They were very strong, and have been well drilled by Damian Barton. The one thing that stood out was they were physically strong. We could see that we will be up against it,” he said.
