Mayobridge lose five young players

Mayobridge's Keith Quinn

MAYOBRIDGE manager Francie Poland admits that the club face a period of uncertainty as five of their senior players leave for San Francisco this week.

Ryan Brady and Keith Quinn, who both featured for Down this year, left yesterday alongside full-back Shane McNamee while fellow defender Kevin McClorey and forward Conleth O’Hare will be fly out today.

All five started last weekend’s 22-point championship victory over Newry Shamrocks, O’Hare and Brady contributing 3-3 between them, and the quintet were also all part of the u-21 side that lost this year’s Ulster final to Omagh St Enda’s with McClorey captaining the side.

“They are five of our five best young players so it’s going to be a massive loss for us,” said Poland. “They are young and it’s hard to turn this down the way things are, but it will be a big blow for us.

“It means we won’t have a massive panel this year. We usually have 28 to 30, but with those five missing, Conor [Garvey] away with the panel and Benny [Coulter] injured, it leaves you with four or five subs, and then you might get a few knocks and things like that.”
