Cavan continue title defence

Cavan's Aisling Doonan
Armagh v Cavan
Saturday, Athletic Grounds, 3.00pm
CAVAN put their Ulster Intermediate crown on the line when they take on the might of Armagh in Saturday’s final at the Athletic Grounds.
Having overcome the challenge of Down after extra time in their semi-final, Adrian McGovern leads his side into this weekend’s clash firm in his belief that the stern test posed by the Erne girls will stand to his side.
“We leaked two handy goals in the first few minutes against Down, and that was maybe down to a bit of rustiness on our part because it was six or seven weeks since the end of the league, girls had exams and the likes, and also you can’t forget that Down were a quality side who were always going to be a massive challenge.
“In fairness to the girls, they bounced back. They worked hard for each other and they turned it around. When it mattered most, in extra time, they showed great hunger and determination to see it through.”
The Cavan boss has seen first hand how strong Armagh are, and he knows that his side will have to be at the top of their game if they are to come out on top. Cavan came close to All-Ireland glory last season, but the manager insists that their Athletic Grounds clash this weekend is the only thing on Breffni minds this week.
“You have to give it to Armagh, they’re a very strong side. We saw them in their semi-final and they’re a quality outfit.”
