Cavanagh to discover extent of injury

Tyrone's Sean Cavanagh

TYRONE star Sean Cavanagh travels to Belfast this morning (Monday) for a series of scans and x-rays to discover the extent of the shoulder injury he picked up yesterday while on club league duty with Moy.

The midfielder was attempting to make a tackle on a player towards the end of their All-County League Division One clash at home to Derrytresk when the incident occurred.

Cavanagh immediately went to ground in severe distress, and was subsequently taken to Craigavon Area Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

It is understood that the injury is not to the same shoulder to which Cavanagh had surgery towards the end of last year, which kept him out of the McKenna Cup and the early rounds of Tyrone’s Division Two National League campaign this spring.

Although the extent of the injury will be determined by specialists today, in conjunction with Tyrone’s medical staff, Cavanagh’s participation in the Ulster Championship quarter-final clash with Armagh in just under two weeks already seems ruled out.

It remains to be seen what involvement Cavanagh will have in the remainder of Tyrone’s 2012 championship campaign, with that picture set to become clearer in the coming days.
