Cavan make the right move – Devenney

WHAT A mess there is in Cavan. With the revelations about the choreography of the managerial situation about to come out in the wash any day now, they will be rightly mocked and derided.
Val Andrews did not deserve the treatment he got, but what is becoming clear to all is that the players did not make a heave against him. Whether it was a breakdown in communication, or some outside force sticking their oar in, something is amiss.
There were comparisons drawn with the Fermanagh situation last year, but the truth does not bear that out. Last year, John O’Neill was intent on digging his heels in and remaining manager. He wanted the job and the prestige of being a county manager.
Once Val Andrews knew there was moves against him, he stood down, as he said, ‘for the good of Cavan football.’ Neither Andrews nor O’Neill deserved the treatment they got, but it was probably easier for Andrews as a Dublin man to escape the situation.
